March 1, 2021
Undergraduate student Sunanda Kottayil was named a 2021 APIA Scholar and was awarded the Walt Disney APIA Scholarship Award worth $2,500. Sunanda’s application essays touched on the topics of racial disparities in women’s reproductive healthcare outcomes, the importance of cultural competency in education, and decolonizing anthropology.
Sunanda will use the scholarship to fund her senior thesis (advised by Professor Martha Lincoln) which will explore the consequences of medical experimentation that occurred during the development of American obstetric and gynecological healthcare.
