Aviva Sinervo

Dr. Aviva Sinervo is a Lecturer in Anthropology and Psychology at San Francisco State University, and in Human Development at the California State University, East Bay. She also teaches anthropology at Modesto Junior College. Her research focuses on the moral and affective economies of child labor, volunteer tourism, international aid, and urban street selling. Her current project considers generational and maturational shifts in wage earning strategies, cosmopolitanism, and government-NGO collaboration around children’s assistance in Peru. Sinervo is a founding member (and past board member) of the American Anthropological Association’s Interest Groups on NGOs and Nonprofits and the Anthropology of Children and Youth. She most recently published a chapter in Cultures of Doing Good: Anthropologists and NGOs (University of Alabama Press, 2017) and co-edited Disadvantaged Childhoods and Humanitarian Intervention: Processes of Affective Commodification and Objectification (Palgrave Studies on Children and Development, 2019).
